"I Thought It Was Just Me" — An Anonymous Client Story

For a long time, I thought the problem was me.
I came to work every day ready to do a good job. But no matter what I did, it was never enough. My ideas were dismissed in meetings, then repeated by someone else and praised. I was left off emails I needed to do my work. When I asked questions, I was told I was "difficult." When I stopped asking, I was told I was "not a team player."
The worst part was how alone it made me feel. I would sit in my car before going inside, just to steady myself. I stopped sleeping well. I started doubting my own memory, my own judgment, my own worth.
It took an outside voice to tell me what I could not see from the inside: this was not a me problem. This was a toxic work environment, and what I was experiencing had a name.
That realization did not fix everything overnight. But it gave me something I had lost — the understanding that I was not crazy, and I was not alone.
