Listening Before Leading: What Culture Work Actually Requires
The most important phase of any workplace culture engagement is the one nobody sees: listening.
When an organization asks for help with its workplace culture, the temptation is to jump straight to solutions — a new policy, a training day, a values refresh. Our experience is that culture work fails when it skips the diagnosis.
That is why our culture and climate assessments begin with structured listening: confidential conversations, surveys, and listening sessions that give employees at every level a safe channel to describe their actual experience. The patterns that emerge are rarely what leadership expected — and that is precisely the point.
Only after we understand what people are experiencing do we recommend interventions. Sometimes the answer is training. Sometimes it is a process change. Sometimes it is simply repairing a broken feedback loop. But it always starts with listening.
